Today is World Mental Health Day 2025 — a moment to pause, reflect, and acknowledge the importance of positive mental health across the globe.
For me, this day is a reminder of how far I’ve come in my own mental health journey. I honestly don’t know if I’d still be here today without the support of a few key people who supported me through my darkest days.
Lately, life has thrown me some difficult challenges. A personal matter has drained my energy and heavily depleted my mental wealth. It has reminded me just how much our mental health ebbs and flows, and how essential it is to have practices, people, and perspective to steady us through the journey.
As I reflected on where I am now compared to the girl I was in my twenties — the one who constantly people-pleased and believed every cruel word her inner critic said — I realised just how far I’ve come.
Those reflections inspired today’s episode of Mental Wealth with Jules Hobbs, where I share ten truths that have transformed the way I care for my mind, heart, and health over the past decade.
✨ A Glimpse at a Few Truths
🧠 Your thoughts are not facts.
That inner critic? They lie! You don’t have to believe everything your brain says — it’s a storyteller. Learning to separate thoughts from facts is one of the most powerful mental wealth tools we have, to acknowledge that our thoughts are more - they’re ideas, worries, musings, memories, perspectives etc!
💛 Gratitude snowballs.
I know, it’s one you’ve heard before — but it’s true! Research in positive psychology shows that regularly practising gratitude helps rewire your brain to notice more of the good, improving mood, optimism, and resilience over time. It’s one of the simplest yet most transformative daily habits for mental health. The more time you take to look for the good, the more you will see!
And side note: It is OK to feel grateful AND sad. It just makes it a bit easier to deal with the negative emotions when you can see all the amazing things in your life! ✨
💰 Your mental wealth requires a budget.
This one feels especially relevant in my life right now and was part of the inspiration behind today’s podcast episode. Your mental wealth, like your finances, isn’t constant or linear — it fluctuates depending on what demands are placed upon your inner assets and mental tool kit.
Your mental wealth is not linear or constant. Life is like a roller coaster and some of those sharp drops, steep climbs and loop de loops may cause additional expenditure. Some situations may ask more of us emotionally, mentally, or physically, and that’s okay.
Think of a time when your mental wealth was abundant: how was your energy, your patience, your bandwidth? And now, compare that to when you’ve felt depleted. Recognising those shifts helps you spend your energy more wisely and take time to top up when needed.
💭 A Reflection for You
Today, I invite you to commemorate World Mental Health Day by doing just one thing for yourself.
It doesn’t have to be big or elaborate — maybe it’s a mindful walk, journaling for ten minutes, or messaging someone who always brightens your day.
Whatever you choose, make it something that honours your light within.
Because when you nurture your mental wealth, you’re not just caring for yourself — you’re contributing to a ripple effect of calm, kindness, and connection that the world truly needs.
